Grade 9 P4 Joshua Kettle Face Value Project

This project was fun because we were actually drawing and shading something, which i love to do. I'm really excited for the reflection name thing because it gives me the ability to be more creative.

Value and shading P4

Value is how much light is shown on an object, for example; a light is sprayed on a sphere and the sphere now has value. The edge of the sphere that is closest to the light source has the lightest value, and the further away the other edges are, the darker their value is.

There are many different ways of creating value, for example you can shade in an object. The harder you press and the more you shade; the darker the value is. Another way of creating value is Cross Hatching. Cross Hatching is when you cross over lines. To create darker value with Cross Hatching, you need to make the lines closer together. Unlike shading, pressing harder with Cross Hatching wont create a darker value. The only Way to create darker value when Cross Hatching, is to add more lines and make the lines closer together.

Joshua Kettle Art Talk Textbook Work P4

1. The author defines line as something to lead your eyes, like how lines will lead your eye through an artwork or lead your eyes into the middle of a spiral.

2. Lines need dimensions, movement and a direction, making a line requires the right tools and surfaces.

3. The amount of space an object takes up in one space.

4. Lines can be drawn on paper with pencils, it can be carved into rock with chisels and many other ways.

5. An outline is the line around an existing object, an outline isn't like a crack in the ground, its more like the edges of an object. A implied line is a line made up of objects that aren't physically connected, but our eyes follow each object and create a line for us.

Lines "Art as Language" Feb 11 2014

I find it interesting how lines can show just as much emotion as talking and telling about how you feel. Even when your drawing lines your emotions still show, like when your angry and you press harder on the paper, or when your very energetic and you make crazy lines that go all over the place. I knew art was a language but I thought of it as a picture of something like a happy face that tells your happy. But i never knew that something as simple as a line could express so much. I also thought it was interesting that a line is like a representation of what language is, basically language is two locations and a vehicle that transports a thought from one location to another, just like language a line is one point and it travels to another, and what the connection between the two points looks like is what the message is, so if the line is smooth and soft its most likely calm and quiet, but if its thick, big and has lots of sharp edges it comes off as very angry and mean.
